A New Beginning
by High Desert Piper
The first segment in the instruction section, "Your basic learning tools" outlined the 5 things you need to begin learning how to play the Great Highland Bagpipes.
It is presumed at this point that you have at least procured a practice chanter, you have the desire to learn, and the time to practice. Without these 3 things, you're dead in the water already.
If you have not yet found a teacher, or a teacher is impossible now, due to location or finances, you can progress up to a point on your own. HOWEVER! You are going to need to find a teacher before you will be ready to play the Great Highland Bagpipes in public. If you are waiting for your instruction book to arrive, it is possible to learn some of the basics from a website such as this one, or others.
The instruction section of the PoorPiper website is broken down into pages. Each page should be considered as a complete lesson in and of itself. You should only read 1 page at a time, practice the lesson contained on that page until it is second nature, then practice it a few more times for good measure before moving on to the next lesson.
To recap: At this time, you have the desire to learn, time to practice, and you have a practice chanter. You have been unable to locate a teacher yet. Your "Green Book" is on the way. (or soon to be ordered)... So, let's begin!
